dwp transforms this Bangkok office into one of the best.
November 12th, 2010
The new office fitout for the pharmaceutical and medical devices manufacturer in Bangkok has made it as a finalist in this year’s Best Office Awards.
Irrespective of size or type, the Best Office Award (which takes place every second year in Germany) honours international companies, whose innovative offices take into consideration the well-being of their employees, new paths of communication, innovative lighting, acoustics and furnishings and the environment.
Johnson & Johnson commissioned the global design consultancy dwp to transform the interior of their pre-existing office block with an emphasis on ‘improving the company’s image and culture’.
Similar to other industrial buildings located on the outskirts of Bangkok, Johnson & Johnson felt the need to address its 65-kilometre distance from the city’s CBD.
This meant that dwp was faced with the challenge of how best to accommodate staff within the premises. Central to the client’s brief was to ‘ensure that the new design encouraged social activities and productivity whilst attracting and retaining staff.’
The new open spaces, rooms for training and meetings and the clusters of 120-degree workstations have encouraged more collaborative work and enhanced communication throughout the office.
dwp’s open and colourful design has also inspired a new positive office culture – a vast improvement from the previous old-fashioned ‘cubes’ with high, thick screens.
The new reception area has been transformed into a grand, sophisticated space, which can accommodate a large group of people and play host to events, meetings and product launches – a marked change from the once small and dark space used to greet visitors.
Winning the International category of the BEST OFFICE Award was the design of the office building for Steel company Voestalpine Stahl in Linz, Austria. The German winner this year was the headquarters of solar company SOLON SE in Berlin-Adlershof.
