With a deluge of design innovations being showcased at FRONT, Steelcase’s new SILQ chair stood out among the crowd.
Formed and moulded as a seamless chair with highly integrated parts, Steelcase’s new SILQ chair was a hit at FRONT.
The vision behind the chair was to create a chair that brought unparalleled comfort. With its sinuous curves, the result is such a comfortable task chair that it feels as if it is a second skin. The technology and high design qualities brought in the SILQ chair means that it is a chair for 21st-century workers – you don’t merely sit on it, you are a part of it.
Steelcase wanted to create a piece of modern furniture that is more of an organism than a machine. SILQ is the result of that research and experimentation and operated intuitively with the human body.
Pushing the limits of carbon fibre, the SILQ chair is an exploration in materials and science. Through a special breakthrough into its materiality, Steelcase was able to develop something that embodies carbon fibre while allowing it to be produced at mass scale. Doing away with confusing gadgetry, the SILQ chair features only one manual height adjustment, which is just another way that it is all about simplicity.
Beyond the technological framework, the SILQ chair also allows for an extensive variety of customisations – from the frame colours to upholstery – you can make it work with whatever scheme you’re designing.
But don’t just take our word for it, watch the video to see what visitors at FRONT had to say…
