Change Anyone?

A Melbourne collective of architects, artists, filmmakers and musicians are exploring the impact of architecture on our society.

Design for Change (D4C) curate exhibitions illustrating the role of design in developing models for sustainable living.

D4C has collaborated with the Student Organised Network for Architecture (SONA) on a pavilion for the Form and Function Expo currently running alongside designEX 09 in Melbourne.

The collective aims to draw attention to ways society can “re-use, re-adapt and rebuild” spaces in sustainable ways. Their installation will investigate “the use of functional and practical, everyday, every-job trade equipment” through the construction of a designed, ornamental structure of scaffolding.

“We see scaffolding utilised at the birth of every new building, and removed at the end. However, can scaffolding stand as the end product?

“We are seeking to transform the perceived use of scaffolding, and how it assists in sculpting the built environment, but more importantly how the material can become the architecture itself.”

You can find D4C at the Form and Function Expo from today (30 April) until Saturday 2 May at the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre as part of the AIA National Conference: Parallax alongside the designEX fair.
