Bringing Doctors Back

GHD Architecture are helping to bring doctors back to the bush with their involvement in the University of Melbourne’s Rural Health and Education Facility.

GHD Architecture recently completed the Rural Health and Education Facility in regional Victoria, for the University of Melbourne.

Melbourne University began the project to address the shortage of rural health professionals. The project provides integrated accommodation, education and conference facilities.

The concept was to create a ‘village hub’ and community feel to attract doctors and their families, with strong references to the integrated nature of towns and cities.

The facility consists of a suite of 12 buildings, all with their own ‘visual vernacular’ inspired by the surrounding environment, and offers shared bedroom, accommodation units and townhouse style family homes.

GHD have taken an environmentally sustainable approach to the project, using thermally efficient and locally sourced materials.
