Sydney designer launches concept store for Australian design
January 30th, 2008
“To design, make and distribute original, beautiful objects that echo the dramatic elements of nature whilst retaining a distinctly modern aesthetic with room for end-user input."
This is the mission statement of Sydney designer, Alex Noble.
Inspired by his Australian surroundings and the calibre of his fellow designers in the industry, Alex is preparing to launch an all Australian design concept store – ‘Departure Lounge’.
A designer destination, located where else but design central – Surry Hills – the store will represent a dynamic selection of emerging and established Australian designers, with a focus on connecting young designers with the general public and interior designers and architects.
Alex, a self-trained product and furniture designer, started his trade selling direct to market at the makers market in Paddington, giving him a strong sense of market demand.
"The design-aware public are crying out to furnish their home with locally produced design and Departure Lounge will meet that demand," said Alex.
On initial opening, ’Departure Lounge’ will stock Alex’s full range of lights, accessories and furniture along with recycled fashion accessories and soft furnishings from fellow designer Chandice Bowles. They will also stock a wide range of fabrics and products from Surface Art, with more designers to be announced over the coming weeks and months.
Departure Lounge will open on the 1st March at 369 Riley St, Surry Hills.
