The dates for this year’s creative events by Red Dot in Berlin have been set. The design competition will be massively present in the Germany capital from 23 to 25 October as part of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2014. The long weekend will be devoted entirely to honouring this year’s winners. 7,096 projects from 49 countries were entered in the competition this year. The international jury selected 569 of those works and awarded them a Red Dot for their high design quality. The panel of experts also awarded the Red Dot: Best of the Best, the prize for top creative achievements, to 101 of the entries.
On Thursday, 23 October 2014, Red Dot commences with the topic of Game Design. Following on from last year’s high level of public interest, in collaborating with Game One presenter Daniel Budiman the conference “Define Game Design” in Café Moskau in Berlin is realised. At the conference, international industry experts will discuss the newest trends and developments in the game design industry and introduce current approaches.
On Friday, 24 October 2014, it will then be time to celebrate the Red Dot: Best of the Best laureates in the presence of more than 1,200 international guests at the Red Dot Gala. Prof. Dr. Peter Zec, Founder and CEO of Red Dot, will hand over the sought-after Red Dot trophies to the winners on stage in the celebratory atmosphere of the Konzerthaus in Berlin. And the excitement is then still not over: Traditionally it is not until the evening of the awards ceremony that the winner of the Red Dot: Grand Prix, the highest award in the competition, is announced. The new talent to win the Red Dot: Junior Prize with prize money of EUR 10,000 is also not announced until the evening itself.
After the glamorous Red Dot Gala, the top names on the international design scene congregate in the E-Werk in Berlin. Everyone who is anyone on the international creative scene will attend the Designers’ Night there to celebrate the winners and party into the early hours. At the same time, all winning works in the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2014 will be presented in the winners’ exhibition “Design on Stage” in this exclusive party atmosphere. Star DJ Chrissi D! from the Ruhr region will provide the danceable soundtrack to the night.
On Saturday, 25 October, the vernissage for the exhibition “Best Communication Design – Red Dot Winners Selection 2014” will take place in the Museum für Kommunikation in Berlin. All 101 works awarded a Red Dot: Best of the Best in this year’s competition will be on show there exclusively from 26 October 2014 to 11 January 2015.

To honour Chef James Won’s appointment as Gaggenau’s first Malaysian Culinary Partner, we asked the gastronomic luminaire about parallels between Gaggenau’s ethos and his own practice, his multidimensional vision of Modern Malaysian – and how his early experiences of KFC’s accessible, bold flavours influenced his concept of fine dining.
In design, the concept of absence is particularly powerful – it’s the abundant potential of deliberate non-presence that amplifies the impact of what is. And it is this realm of sophisticated subtraction that Gaggenau’s Dishwasher 400 Series so generously – and quietly – occupies.
BLANCOCULINA-S II Sensor promotes water efficiency and reduces waste, representing a leap forward in faucet technology.
Within the intimate confines of compact living, where space is at a premium, efficiency is critical and dining out often trumps home cooking, Gaggenau’s 400 Series Culinary Drawer proves that limited space can, in fact, unlock unlimited culinary possibilities.
Australian artist Marion Borgelt’s work can be found in some of Australia’s most notable commercial buildings – from 123 Pitt Street, Sydney, to Tower One, Barangaroo and Perth’s Crown Towers. Gillian Serisier steps us through her latest exhibition of work.
The warm and smooth sensory experience of Corian is now available in bathtubs with the launch of the DuPont Corian Delight Bath range.
Curated by designaustria, the exhibition Austrian Design – Innovation & Technology, will showcase the best of Austrian product design. The objects on display range from an elegant water beaker and a solar street light to a stacking chair featuring a novel connector system.
