Rob Coombs, President and Chief Executive Officer, Interface Asia Pacific has this morning addressed employees of Interface to assure them of job security and affirmed that wherever possible it’s business as usual after last Friday’s factory fire.
Going on to reassure Interface’s clients, Coombs reinforced the company’s commitment and loyalty to the Australian market:
“…today is day one of our recovery here. We are totally committed to maintaining a local presence. Eighty per cent of our orders are being serviced locally, and we estimate that half of our business is tied to having a local manufacturing source.”
Easing concern about the impact this will have on Interface’s supply chain, the company have outlined that through their global manufacturing capabilities they are still planning to meet the needs of their clients by outsourcing to other facilities in the region. In addition to this, their stock inventory was housed at a location unaffected by the fire, essentially guaranteeing access to half a million square metres of product.
Where custom orders and made-to-order products are affected, it is envisaged that lead times will extend only marginally – from the current 3 weeks to 6 weeks, with their “Quickship” stock program unaffected and still offered at 5 days.
