Andre Fu has recently completed the design of The Clifford Pier restaurant at The Fullerton Bay Hotel in Singapore.

The acclaimed Hong Kong designer, whose past projects for the hotel includes F&B establishments The Landing Point, Clifford and Lantern, takes a page off history for his latest creative work.

The pier itself dates back to 1933 and embodies features that are characteristic of colonial buildings with its arches and impressively high ceilings. So for the 208-seater restaurant, Fu has chosen a colour palette that alludes to the venue’s nautical origins: think mineral blue, warm tangerine and soft beige, accented with rustic stone counters and ornaments such as blue and white porcelain vases.

At the same time, potted palm trees, banquette seating, and historical lithographs, photographs and books offer up references to the location’s past, while old models of wooden cruise ships evoke associations with Singapore’s early immigrants. The choice of fabrics, furniture and bespoke lights, however, are fresh and contemporary, and attention has been paid to the smallest details, down to the carpet motifs inspired by local culture.

Outside, the alfresco seating area along the pier’s perimeters incorporates aquatic references, accentuating the restaurant’s unique setting perched above the sea. It’s here from this vantage point that guests get to enjoy a magnificent view of Marina Bay and Singapore’s modern skyline.
