Bangkok-based design practice ONION gives the latest branch of the popular Laem Charoen seafood restaurant a youthful and colourful vibe.
January 14th, 2015
Having already worked on all six branches of Laem Charoen Seafood restaurant in Thailand, ONION was more than familiar with the brand and understood what the client was hoping to achieve with the latest outlet in Bangkok.
“Since Laem Charoen is growing in popularity amongst the younger generation, we wanted to create a warm and cheerful atmosphere for this new restaurant, which was similar to other branches, just more youthful,” explains ONION’s Design Director Arisara Chaktranon.
The new Laem Charoen seafood restaurant occupies 234 square metres of space next to the entrance of the Sense Community Mall on Pinklao Road.
The family style eatery features an open-plan layout and a cheerful, contemporary colour scheme with accents of warm timber, blue, orange, and matte silvery grey.
Particular attention has been paid to the design of the ceiling and floor. Above, ONION has arranged the OBS boards in a radius pattern based on the parameter of the existing glass façade, with the curved edges painted fluorescent orange to mirror the colour accent on the dining chairs. And on the floor, the locally made ceramic tiles are similarly dressed in blue and orange to form a bold, repetitive pattern across the room.
