Desa Potato Head is the home of Indonesian hospitality company Potato Head Group‘s diverse establishments in Bali, which include the Potato Head Beach Club, the Katamama Hotel, clothing store Escalier, audiophile space Eksotika, and the upcoming Potato Head Hotel.

Desa is the Indonesian for ‘village’, and Potato Head envisions its desa as a multi-disciplinary hub of the future with a mission to provide good times and do good in the world.

And the company does walk the talk. It is the first Indonesian hospitality company independently verified as carbon neutral by the United Nations’ Climate Neutral Now initiative.

For every one tonne of carbon the company releases into the atmosphere, it has invested in a renewable energy or infrastructure that cancels that tonne-of-carbon out. Potato Head has also banned single-use plastics and created its own water desalination plant. And whenever possible, it adheres to a zero-waste philosophy.

This Saturday, 22 September 2018, Potato Head, in collaboration with Indonesian online fashion retailer Bobobobo will host Indonesia Now, a one-day festival showcasing the latest and brightest from the country’s vibrant creative scene. 

Envisioned as a celebration of progression and preservation of Indonesian craftsmanship and culture, Indonesia Now features the work from 22 Indonesia-based creatives.

The showcase will unfold in five dioramas; one is dedicated to craft, one to fashion, two are decked with art installations (one is decorated with a photography exhibition by Chris Bunjamin and Wimo Ambala Bayang while another with artworks by Natasha Tontey and Uji ‘Hahan’ Handoko), while the final one designed by and dedicated to Indonesian art darling Eko Nugroho.  

The participating makers include Jakarta-based ceramicist Ayu Larasati, bamboo specialists (and the design-build team behind Bali’s Green School) IBUKU, textile art brand Sejauh Mata Memandang and jewellery brand Tulola. 

Seven F&B stalls from local favourite eateries, two live musical acts and two DJs will add more facets to the festival. The evening will come to a close with an after-party hosted by Bali-based surfer culture magazine Belly. 

There will be a special collaborative T-shirt on sale at the event; proceeds from the sale will go to Potato Head’s on-site earthquake relief efforts in Lombok.
