In a groundbreaking move toward sustainable urban development, the inaugural Circular Cities Summit 1.0 (CCS) themed Game-Changing Innovations for Future Cities was launched yesterday at Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre. This two-day summit serves as the genesis of a transformative journey aimed at advancing the concept of circular cities and working collaboratively towards achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a special emphasis on Goal 11 – making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.

Some 400 delegates from around the world, including 21 country embassies and ministries gathered through a series of panel discussions and keynote speeches delivered by leaders and practitioners on circular economy and sustainable urban solutions. They were also present to witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) by three world-leading professional organisations, namely the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA), the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP), and the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO).

This MOU not only defines and reinforces the unique role of each profession but also celebrates their shared commitment to ethical practices that enhance the quality of life for humanity. The three professional organisations are embarking on a world-first journey to foster an enduring partnership with the launch of the Circular Cities Network. This network aims to rally professionals from each organisation, providing them with a shared platform for the exchange of circular ideas, thereby contributing to SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities.

Circular Cities Network offers a unique platform for professionals within the built environment industry to collaborate on projects and initiatives within cities and across borders. Members have opportunities to pool knowledge, collaborate on research endeavours and conceive innovative solutions to user in a sustainable future.
