Designed by Niels Diffrient for Humanscale, the award-winning Freedom chair is an intelligent and beautifully designed seating solution that efficiently adapts to the user.
December 14th, 2015
As a true pioneer in ergonomics, Niels Diffrient focuses on designing seating solutions that easily and efficiently adapt to users, allowing them to move freely from one posture to the next.
Freedom is a perfect case in point. Redefining the concept of traditional task chairs and a recipient of more than 10 design awards, the Freedom chair is one of the most well known seating products from Humanscale.
The Freedom chair features an innovative weight-sensitive, self-locking recline mechanism that cleverly uses a sitter’s own body weight to perfectly adjust the tension and recline position of the chair to provide full support in every position.
The pivoting backrest automatically moves with the user, offering perfect lumbar comfort in all situations. In addition, synchronous arms allow for easy adjustment with just one hand and are designed to move with the user.
Users will find Freedom exceedingly comfortable, thanks to its contoured cushions that closely follow the body’s shape. This feature also helps to reduce pressure points and provide exceptional weight distribution.
A true design icon, the Freedom chair is proof that ergonomics can be beautiful. The modular design means that users can update the aesthetics of the chair – it also makes maintenance easy. In addition, a wide range of high-performance textiles are offered, and are designed to complement the chair’s unique cushion contours to maximise their comfort, performance and ergonomic function.
Freedom is available in two versions – the everyday Freedom Task and the executive Freedom Headrest. The latter comes with a dynamic support that cradles the head and neck during recline, while remaining neutral when in an upright position.
Like all Humanscale products, Freedom is a sustainable product. The chair is GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality, GREENGUARD Gold and level® 2 certified.
