Langdon is a range of furniture pieces designed by Chris Hardy that sit well in a wide variety of contexts, thanks to their simple, elegant lines.
November 21st, 2013
The range is developed through a process-led approach to design, with each piece characterised by a ribbon-like square section of solid timber that forms the furniture’s frame.
In addition, all of the junctions in the frame are visually softened using a small elbow cut into the different sections to create gentle and easily manufacturable transitions.
The design of the armchair falls in line with the 20th century paradigm of traditional European timber armchair construction, while the stools have taken on a Japanese aesthetic in the way that the upwardly arching seat contrasts with the frame to bring to mind the image of a traditional Japanese Torii gate.
Langdon is constructed from solid and laminated Victorian ash in natural, black stain or lime wash under a satin polyurethane finish. The range will also be available in an upholstered version.
Currently, the Langdon range consists of an armchair as well as 450mm and 750mm high stools, but will soon expand to include other pieces such as a coffee table and lounge chair.
