Singapore’s West End Packs a Punch

Three very different locations on the West Loop gave visitors a whole lot to see and do.

Singapore’s West End Packs a Punch

May 27th, 2011

From innovative lighting to Dutch design to premier international brands, the western front offered up many points for design conversation.

We start at Havelock Road with ERCO Lighting. Sharing its showroom with Modular Space for the event, we found, was a great way to show off the products that each had on display.

Launching exclusively at SiD was Erco’s new generation, energy-efficient product range, Logotec – the first spotlight series based exclusively on LEDs! Erco’s lighting tools were an excellent way to accentuate all the new products carried by Modular Space, including the Lordo chair from Dauphin which has an elastic, pressure-regulating backrest for unique back support.

Many visitors (us included!) also took turns testing out Modular Space’s flexible chair prototype, which morphed into various forms to give the user different ways to sit or rest.

Over at River Valley Road, we dropped into Going Dutch for our fix of… what else but good Dutch design! The lifestyle concept store carries numerous brands that are very popular back in Europe such as Leolux and Pastoe, and a wide range of options for the home from furniture to kitchens, lighting, rugs and home textiles.

We tested out a few of the red dot awarded leather sofas from Leolux, which were amazingly comfortable, tried the traditional Dutch cheeses, and checked out some 25 artworks by 5 Dutch artists, before popping next door into Dream Interiors.

Over at Dream, there were 4 absorbing works under The Project to keep one occupied – HJGHER’s Crazy Diamond installation, Elixr’s colourful origami butterflies above kikki.K’s product settings, DDB’s ’Making Furniture out of Letters’ project, and HCF and Associates’ eye-catching outdoor structure. And of course, nothing could beat getting ’reacquainted’ with all of Dream’s fine brands such as Knoll, Matteograssi, Casa Milano, MDF Italia and De La Espada!
