Part of the new collection from Sancal, Konoha by Japanese architect Toyo Ito is a unique bench designed to encourage interaction.

Inspired by the algorithm of the double helix, Konoha (Japanese for ’tree leaves’) by world-renowned Japanese architect Toyo Ito for Sancal is a bench designed to facilitate the connection among people and encourage a free, flexible use of space. The shape is visually evocative, a vegetal silhouette similar to a leaf.
The pieces in the series can come together to create various ’landscapes’; by changing the position or orientation of the benches, it becomes possible to modify the context and adapt to the dimensions of any space.
Toyo Ito has used natural materials such as wool and wood to enhance the organic component of Konoha. The upholstery is an exclusive design by Giulio Ridolfo for Kvadrat and comes in autumnal colours including beige, brown, grey, violet, red and dark green. The base is made of bleached beech.
The new Sancal 2011 collection, including Konoha, is available in Singapore at Dream Interiors.
