Designed by eco-id, Singapore’s first hotel residence shows how it aims to break the mould with high-tech, intuitive and thoughtful features.

Strategically located in Changi Business Park – Singapore’s second-largest business district – Capri by Fraser sets itself apart as both a hotel and a service residence for jet-setting, tech-savvy business travellers looking for a place to call their temporary home.
And so in designing the spaces, eco-id began by first defining ways to cut through the set ideas of a typical hotel.
“Our approach was to break away from the conventional mode of how hotels are operated. We thus focused on providing recreational and functional spaces that would enhance the guest’s business as well as leisure experience,” says eco-id’s lead designer.
The hotel had to be ‘e-efficient’ and ‘turned on 24/7’, and also perform the functions of a full serviced apartment. In the public spaces, bright, vibrant and free-flowing social areas feature eye-catching, contemporary art installations, while the spacious guest rooms come with thoughtful touches, including fast and free wireless Internet, iPod/iPhone docks, a kitchenette, and the option to select your preferred in-room essential oil scent.
To enhance the sense of space in the rooms, eco-id has incorporated a walk-in closet within the bath zone, and has chosen to forgo a bathtub in favour of a generous shower area.
In the bedroom proper, the dressing table, writing desk and DVD player are well concealed within an elongated plank, effectively freeing up space and keeping the room clutter-free. Some suites also open out to large private terraces, complete with a hammock for outdoor relaxation.
Even laundry becomes less of a chore and more of a social experience (or experiment!) with themed launderettes located on every floor. Each comes with Wii, Xbox, Kinect, iPads and even exercise machines to keep guests entertained in between spin cycles.
Importantly, technology ensures that guests are plugged in throughout the hotel, at all times. At Hotspot – which also serves as a chill out lounge area – one will find the latest iMacs as well as multi-cable charging stations. iPad-activated check-ins, ePrint facilities and an interactive eConcierge complete the experience.
