Nina Maya of Nina Maya Interiors is known for her love of all things custom. Bespoke, unique and specific designs have indefinable value which can make or break an interior space – and Maya knows exactly how to use them.
“We custom make all of our furniture,” says Maya. “We custom make all of our designs, and we particularly commission art works for [each] site specifically.”
This dedication to bespoke designs has yielded a number of remarkable interiors over the years – though Residence R certainly stands out among the crowd. It was an appreciation for innovation and unique craftsmanship which first drew Maya to Axolotl. Maya came across a client’s garage door which was embellished with breathtaking bronze textures and was instantly fascinated. Since then, Axolotl and Nina Interiors have worked closely together to create custom pieces which push the boundaries of technology and artistry.
Their partnership continues with the release of a video tour of Residence R which showcases the luxurious and personalised touches which transform the space into a one-of-a-kind home. Throughout the project, Axolotl worked with Nina Interiors to bring visions of custom designs to life, from glass features to elevator panels, doors, artworks and more.
Maya is particularly delighted with the way that Axolotl can create fluid shapes and designs from delicate materials such as glass. Whether it’s adding in a texture, adding in bronze, engraving, printing behind it or even distorting colours, Axolotl is ready to rise to the occasion. “It’s just extraordinary what they can do with it,” says Maya. “There are just endless possibilities.”
A mesmerising feature fixed window panel in Residence R stands as a testament to the exquisite craftsmanship of Axolotl. The video explores the intricate details of Axolotl’s custom pieces, including various commissioned artworks by Marcus Piper which have been produced by Axolotl, a seamless fireplace flute which perfectly represents Axolotl’s ability to work with curved metal, and applied metals on the garage and entry doors in a thoughtful call-back to the garage door which started it all for Nina Maya.
