Yellow Diva’s entry into Melbourne Fringe Furniture 2008 is turning street art into seat art.
November 21st, 2008
When designers were invited to respond to this year’s Melbourne Fringe Furniture’s theme ‘Make Your Mark’, Yellow Diva approached the local graffiti community. The result is the inaugural product from Yellow Diva’s new collaborative range Yd+.
Yellow Diva commissioned graffiti artist, Phibs to customise a white vinyl easy chair from its C10 range. Phibs referenced tribal and urban tattoo art and used automotive spray dyes to create the dramatic and distinctive limited edition chair.
Using automotive spray dyes rather than paint ensured the pigment entered the vinyl’s surface becoming an integral part of the fabric.
Products from the new Yd+ range are designed in collaboration with an independent designer or manufacturer or as in the C10+Phibs an existing item from the Yellow Diva range is customised.
