Gebrüder Thonet Vienna GmbH (GTV) has unveiled a new range of products and collaborations at the 2019 Milan design week – celebrating traditional design and artisan craft.
GTV’s newly unveiled range is a sincere expression of the classical materials, traditional design, and workmanship of the group’s Austrian heritage.
The launch sees a newly launched N.200 chair designed by Michael Anastassiades as a real designer highlight. Named to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the brands first joinery workshop opened in 1819, the chair is one that embodies the specific Gebrüder Thonet Vienna style, but with a twist. The modernisation-meets-traditional design of the piece exemplifies the company’s deep vocation for design innovation.
The N.200 represents both GTV and Anastassiades’ attention to detail; from the black lacquered or natural stained wooden structure to the curvature of its silhouette forming the armrests and feet. The chair is inviting and relaxing, showcasing the high manufacturing standards at GTV, while the seat and backrest in woven cane contribute to the overall feeling of lightness.
The Suzenne Lounge Chair by Chiara Andreatti is a piece brimming with contemporary spirit. This piece offers a graceful take on some of the Gebrüder Thonet Vienna traditional design features, being bent beech black lacquered wood and woven cane. The chair features a sleek structure with the combination of straight and curved lines securing the backrest in woven cane, with bent beech-wood frame. The cushions on the seat and backrest are soft and cosy, springing forth like a flower from the stem.
These new launched are a wonderful example of the brand’s capacity for transforming the value of the past into an asset for the future, combining sophisticated stylistic visions in a highly contemporary amalgamation of lines and forms.
The GTV collection is available in Australia through Space Furniture.
