Catapult Design are thrilled to announce that Adelaide-based industrial designer Paul Townsin has joined their stable of represented talent.
November 5th, 2014
Catapult Design are the exclusive trade representative for Townsin in New South Wales, and will also retail his products through their Darlinghurst showroom and retail space.
Townsin has a passion for design, particularly object, furniture and lighting, and his commitment to his local industry is highlighted by his membership of the Design Institute of Australia (SA branch) council. He is also curating various exhibitions with the specific purpose of connecting local designers with manufacturers and retailers.
His two lighting products that will initially become part of the Catapult Collection are the Me and Me Too Pendants. Hand crafted from concrete, these siblings were met with a fantastic response at Design and Decoration in Sydney earlier this year, where his work caught the eye of the Catapult directors. Townsin previously exhibited at Sydney Indesign 2013, the same year he was a finalist of Launch Pad.
“The sleek contemporary appearance of concrete, and the simplicity yet playful beauty of the designs were what immediately drew us to Paul’s work,” said Catapult director Leigh Johnson. “And the fact that he is a committed member of the design community, and designs and manufactures in Australia, mean he is a perfect addition to the Catapult Collection.”
These sentiments are echoed by Townsin, who states, “I am excited to be working with Catapult Design as it has a strong focus on great quality Australian design, and is representing Australian designers that I have a lot of respect for.”
“Being Adelaide-based, Catapult provides an opportunity to expose my work to the NSW A&D community,” Townsin continues. “I was impressed by the enthusiastic and respectful manner by which Leigh [Johnson] and Aaron [Zorzo] approached my designs when we met on various occasions in the last 12 months, and I look forward to working with the Catapult team.”
Also in development from Townsin are the Bud pendant, a slip cast ceramic extension of a bespoke project for a client, and an expansion of the Me & Me Too range with the addition of a floor and table lamp.
“We’re excited to continue working with Paul to develop his range,” said Johnson. “One of the best parts of running a company like Catapult is the ability to find and nurture great designers as they develop their skills and range. We can’t wait to see what Paul continues to bring us as our relationship grows.”
