Leading Australian architectural practice Bates Smart has made several senior staff appointments, positioning itself for its next generation of growth. The practice has announced three new Studio Directors, as well as the retirement of long term Melbourne based Director, Jim Milledge in December.
November 24th, 2014
Jim has been a Director of Bates Smart for over thirty years, and was a very significant contributor to the Melbourne studio as well as being instrumental in establishing the Sydney presence.
The three newly announced Studio Directors each contribute particular areas of expertise across the firm.
Matthew Allen is a noted contributor to design competition and award winning projects in the Sydney Studio. Julian Anderson will relocate from Sydney to Melbourne, bringing large project delivery capacity to the Melbourne Studio. Edwina McDermott, also Melbourne based, will take on a key practice management and operations role.
In addition, Director Simon Swaney, who currently shares the Managing Director role with Jim Milledge, will now divide his time between the Sydney and Melbourne studios, enhancing the synergies between the two studios.
These Studio Director appointments follow three similar appointments made for the first time in 2013. This newly created position recognizes the critical role this depth of leadership and experience plays in the on-going success of the practice.
