The winners were announced in Sydney on Friday night, with the Grand Prix award going to Queensland’s CMD Design, for their innovative Flaik Design.

Brisbane-based industrial design company, CMD Design and Innovation, are the winners of the Australian International Design Award of the Year, announced in Sydney on May 30.
CMD created the winning sports product, Flaik, to give skiers and riders the ability to monitor personal performance including speed, distance, altitude and air time.
Flaik beat 159 entries and 61 finalists from well-known Australian and International brands including Audi, Qantas, Miele and Holden to become the first Queensland company to win the prestigious award.
Flaik has also taken out the European iF Product Design Award.
In creating the Flaik, CMD had to consider the ruggedness of snow sports, the functionality of the device and the aesthetics.
The Australian International Design Awards is recognised by the Commonwealth Government and the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design [ICSID] as the peak promotional body for the Australian design industry.
CMD has previously won eight Australian International Design Awards since 2001.
