NAWIC will be announcing the winner of its International Women’s Day Scholarship at a cocktail party on Thursday 24 March 2011.

The scholarship presents a $10,500 opportunity for a woman in the construction industry to develop a White Paper to be used as a positive instrument for change.

The evening will feature a presentation by last year’s winner Melonie Bayl-Smith, discussing her review of construction teaching at universities in Australia, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, UK and US.

There will also be a presentation on NAWIC NSW’s upcoming participation in Habitat for Humanity’s 2011 Nepal Build, where 15 NAWIC NSW members will travel to Nepal to help build homes for 10 impoverished female-headed households.

Mico Melbourne Showroom Opening

Architects and designers gathered for the launch of Mico’s South Melbourne showroom on Thursday the 8th of September. After being welcomed by a red carpet and a trigger-happy photographer they eventually moved into the large, white, functional space – complete with water pouring from ceilings into overflowing baths, interactive wet areas and offset private spa rooms. Kohler designer Mark Bickerstaffe was a special guest on the night.

Natalya Hughes latest collection of work deconstructs, reconfigures and rewrites figurative images to form partially abstracted and highly patterned psychological worlds. Working broadly across painting, print, animation and installation, Hughes conflates the boundaries between beauty and the grotesque, realism and abstraction.
