QIP event centres landmark research on LGBTQIA+ housing needs in Sydney

QIP NSW’s latest event has just taken place in Sydney. Yirranma Place in Darlinghurst was the venue, with the event – supported by Shelter NSW and funded through the City of Sydney’s Innovation and Ideas grant program – presenting new research examining the housing challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals.

The study, conducted by Kath Buden, Principal of Teremok, explores the intersectional housing needs of the LGBTQIA+ community in Sydney. It offers a series of recommendations aimed at addressing systemic barriers within the housing sector. Among the key proposals were the creation of a practical toolkit, reforms to housing policy, the establishment of dedicated LGBTQIA+ housing services, and further investigation into forming an LGBTQIA+ Community Housing Provider.

Following the research presentation, a panel discussion took place featuring John Engeler, CEO of Shelter NSW; Zann Maxwell, Deputy Lord Mayor of the City of Sydney; and Caroline Tomiczek, Director at Urbis. The session was moderated by Dayle Bennett, Chair of QIP NSW and Planning Manager at Western Sydney International Airport.

The event, supported by Urbis and DKO Architecture, was also free and open to the public, continuing previous events by QIP.

The full research report is publicly available on the Shelter NSW website here.
