If we can find a silver lining for 2020, it’s that it’s put our local communities to the top of our agendas. While living in a digital world can sometimes have us operating like global design citizens, the bans on international flights and large events have had us all looking a little closer to home. And what perfect timing: we’re living in a society that is re-learning to value craftsmanship and true artisans, we’re looking for materials that are sustainable and practices that are ethical, we are seeking quality and timelessness as the ultimate antidote to design trends that are made to be temporary.
So this year, let us help you uncover the magic of your local design world with Super Design. We’ve lined up artisans who live and breathe local design, brands who specialise in creating products crafted from their local resources and designers who build spaces intimately connected to their spatial context. Join in the talks, experience the events and be inspired to discover design that is just beyond your door.

When Angela Kasimis purchased a derelict corner block in Sydney’s inner city suburb of Glebe, she was taking a leap into the unknown. With no formal hospitality or design experience, she had visions of a boutique wine bar that traded grunge for something decidedly more continental. Enter Pattern Studio, who took Kasimis’ ideas and transformed them into reality, with No. 92 emerging as a refined destination with an approach to design and hospitality that is rich, evocative and immersive. In this session, Kasimis (No. 92) and Lily Goodwin (Pattern Studio) come together to reflect on their collaboration and the magic that comes from a strong working relationship between client and designer.

“We have known wood our entire life, from the forest we played in as children…” – Fadil
The Ćostović family grew up surrounded by forest in the former Yugoslavia – made up of five brothers and a hardworking mother. The eldest of the five boys, heavily influenced by his grandfather who was a self-taught craftsman continued the legacy and love of wood.
This session shares the story of Artisan founder Fadil Ćostović, whose family’s appreciation and multi-generational connection to wood not only survived family tragedy and war but has gone on to become an award-winning design and innovation manufacturer located in Bosnia, which specialises in the manual production of high-quality furniture made from solid wood, their insistence on manual artisan work is what sets them apart. Artisan’s passion and understanding of the timber used resonates within each piece the craftsmen’s hand’s touch.

Straight from the new Four Pillars Laboratory in Sydney’s Surry Hills, Cocktail Hour! brings together the creators, makers, designers and drinkers responsible for bringing the new Sydney gin hub to life.
Four Pillars Co-Founder Matt Jones will be joined by YSG Studio’s Yasmine Ghoniem (the award-winning interior designer responsible for conceiving the space), Cult Design Founder Richard Munao and acclaimed designer Tom Fereday for a 45-minute panel discussion and an exclusive cocktail masterclass.
