In the most glamorous of celebrations, famed film, stage and interior designer, Catherine Martin revealed her magnificent rug and textile collections with Designer Rugs and Mokum.

Over 200 design industry guests were at the epic unveiling of Oscar-winning star Catherine Martin’s first Axminster carpet collection, ‘Majorelle’. Also on show was her Mokum textile collection, ‘The Royal Menagerie’. The event was a glamorous delight, hosted by Designer Rugs with Mokum and Catherine Martin herself.

The excitement was palpable – from the wondrous sights of performance art duo The Huxleys, to an incredible video showcasing classic movie magic with behind-the-scenes images from Elvis.

The eclectic collections on display really stole the show with images of ‘Majorelle’ reimagined into styled vignettes, much like the films Martin has more than influenced – including Romeo + Juliet, The Great Gatsby and Elvis.

The premium carpet designs – all customisable in pattern repeat, colourway and scaling – celebrate Martin’s “love of mixing discordant textures and patterns into extravagantly contrasting but nevertheless visually enticing combinations”.

The collection also pays homage to Martin’s French heritage and love affair with French culture, design and interior architecture.

Photographed in partnership with long-time Catherine Martin collaborator Mokum, these designs embrace a maximalist approach to interiors and create a sea of bold pattern underfoot.

“I seek, in this collection, to find a style where being baroque is elegant and modern,” says Martin. “Marrying animal print and embellished tropical designs and an exuberantly luxurious palette, this is a collection that is meant to be both glamorous and playful.”

On ‘Majorelle’, Designer Rugs’ Yosi Tal says: “Creating unique designs for Axminster carpet is a natural progression for us as a luxury rug brand – the flexibility of design and colour, and the renowned high quality of this type of carpet production have made it a very successful venture.”

With the decadent textile collection, ‘The Royal Menagerie’, Martin and Mokum translated her fantastical botanical motifs, animal prints, and the glamour of rock’n’roll into textiles that lined the walls of the venue.

Thanks to the shared vision between Designer Rugs and Mokum, it was a night to remember, but these collections will be anything but forgotten.
