A shortlist of six world-class teams has been revealed for the highly anticipated global architecture competition for the Adelaide Contemporary Gallery.
What was once the Royal Adelaide Hospital, alongside the Adelaide Botanic Garden is now set to become a new cultural landmark on Adelaide’s North Terrace Boulevard, care of a design competition. Adelaide Contemporary will combine a contemporary art gallery, a public sculpture park and a meeting place.
A global call for entrants encouraged international applications alongside local ones, which was a condition of entry and was endorsed by the Australian Institute of Architects. Each of the six finalists was chosen by a panel chaired by Michael Lynch AO CBE, with representatives from Arts South Australia, the Art Gallery of South Australia and the Office for Design and Architecture South Australia.
Again, Michael Lynch AO CBE will chair the design competition jury alongside eminent leaders from the arts, architecture, culture and business sectors. The winner is expected to be announced June 2018.
