February 11th, 2010
Sydney’s Gaffa Gallery finds an inspiring new home in a heritage listed CBD building.
Now housed in the heart of Sydney CBD at 281 Clarence street, the inaugural exhibition opens Thursday 11 February featuring a plethora of prestigious artists’ works.
Gaffa’s new premises will house four gallery spaces, the largest jewellery studio in Australia, a contemporary jewellery and object store, design project spaces and the ‘Klink’ cafe.
“This significantly larger site will not only bring more artists together, but will expose them to new and wider audiences,” says Kelly Robson, Gaffa Director.
The inaugural exhibition ‘Fidelity’ will feature artists Ella Barclay, Sumugan Sivanesan, Mark Gerada, Sean O’Connell, Marcelle Robbins, Ben Backhouse, Geoffrey Farquhar-Still, Andrew Lavery, Melinda Young, Zoe Brand and Kath Fries.
On the ground floor, ‘The Arcade Project’ will see a revolving series of pop-up shops showcasing innovative design.
The initial tennants are industrial designer Emma Elizabeth, product design collective Vert Design and artist and stylist sister duo Bams & Ted.
In level two Gallery Stufios, jewelers Jyoti Peart and Alida Cappelletta will start running jewellery classes from March 2010.
