Innovative concept designs from the annual Electrolux Design Lab competition are currently on showcase at the Good Design Lounge presented by Electrolux, as part of VIVID Sydney, from 23 May – 9 June 2014.
June 5th, 2014
Now in its 12th year, Electrolux Design Lab is a global design competition open to undergraduate and graduate design students who are invited to present their creative ideas for future households.
Each year, young designers are challenged to create a concept that raises questions about what design will be like in the future. In previous years, concepts have been requested for themes such as healthy eating, sustainable living, the internet generation and ever-shrinking city spaces.
Exhibited in Australia for the first time, the concepts being showcased at the Good Design Lounge presented by Electrolux are based on the theme ‘intelligent mobility’ featuring unique and quirky portable appliances for the future.
An interactive touch screen will also display some of the best 2014 competition entries, with an opportunity for visitors to vote for their favourite concepts.
“Attracting entries from more than 40 countries around the world, Electrolux Design Lab gives young, talented designers a platform to showcase their work on a global scale and to gain valuable insight into the world of commercial product design,” said Lyndon Craig, Senior Design manager of Electrolux Home Products.
“In partnership with Good Design Australia, we look forward to celebrating young design talent and demonstrating some of the innovative thinking that has come out of the Design Lab competition. We also look forward to encouraging young designers to participate in the competition in future years.”
The top 100 innovative 2014 competition entries are now presented on the Design Lab website www.electroluxdesignlab.com. The winner, to be announced in November, will receive 5,000 Euros and a six-month paid internship at an Electrolux global design centre.
