The concert audience will be offered an opportunity to download three tracks from the concert – free of charge.
The songs are new and original musical expressions of three favourite Australian poems, scored and sung by Sydney composer Gavin Lockley.
’My Country Australia’ is based on the visionary poem ’Core of My Heart’ by Dorothea Mackellar – ’I love a sunburnt country, a land of sweeping plains …’.
’Clancy of the Overflow’ is based on A.B. ’Banjo’ Paterson’s fabled poem of the same name – ’Clancy’s gone to Queensland droving, and we don’t know where he are …’. ’¨
’The Australian Sunrise’ is based on a sweet and touching poem by James Lister Cuthbertson – ’The Morning Star paled slowly, the Cross hung low to the sea …’.
All three tracks are from the ABC Classics 2 CD pack ’Symphony of Australia – Ballads of the Bush’ now on sale in ABC Shops. ’¨
