Contemporary furniture company B&B Italia launched three new collections dedicated to the outdoors in Cologne to kick off 2017 in style. Designed by Antonio Citterio, the new projects include the Ray Outdoor Natural and Ray Outdoor Fabric seating systems, the Erica seating series, and the Ginestra family of tables and chairs. The launch of the collections underscores the importance of outdoor spaces as a significant area for design.

Based on the same qualities that distinguish B&B Italia’s indoor seating systems – technological innovation, ergonomics, quality and comfort – the new outdoor projects designed by Antonio Citterio include seating systems in two new versions, armchairs, sofas and chairs, as well as large rectangular and round dining tables.

Ray Outdoor Natural & Ray Outdoor Fabric

The Ray seating system by Antonio Citterio follows the success of the indoor series with two new versions, Natural and Fabric made for the outdoors and featuring a light extruded aluminium frame design. Ray Outdoor Natural is characterised by a “rope” weave made of textilene material while Ray Outdoor Fabric uses a “ribbon” weave made of polypropylene fibre in colours ranging from turquoise, blue and acid green to dove grey and bright Bordeaux.

The Ray seating collection across the two versions, complete with seat and back cushions, includes sofas and armchairs with the Fabric version also offering a sunbed with wheels.

Erica

The Erica series is characterised by a lightweight design, compliance with ergonomic and environmental adaptability guidelines, and three basic colours. Designed for use in both public and residential settings, the Erica collection of armchairs, sofas and chairs including a stackable version, is made of a blend of extruded and die-cast aluminium elements, combined with special high resistance synthetic fabric interlacing to meet the outdoor application.

The three basic colours – white, dove grey and anthracite – have been used in different combinations for the structure and interlacing, while the soft seat and back cushions are offered in a wide range of colours.

Ginestra

The Ginestra collection of large rectangular and round dining tables combines a natural teak structure and top with polypropylene fibre interlacing in beige as well as central inserts in white Calacatta porcelain stone. The series also includes a chair, inspired by Nordic design, and featuring a natural teak structure and soft seat and back cushions for comfort.
