3 Alternative Chairs for the Office

With workplace design undergoing profound change, it’s hardly surprising to see the products we spend the most time on doing the same. Here are three innovative seating for the new office space.

3 Alternative Chairs for the Office

#1 Buoy by Steelcase

We spend a good portion of the day in our seats. A good chair should therefore be comfortable, and should support the different movements we make.

Enter the Buoy chair, which has been designed to be as active as you are by letting you swivel, turn, tilt and move up and down. The curved base provides up to 12 degrees of tilt for those who enjoy movement to keep the mind sharp.

Buoy is meant for everyone, which is why it offers five and a half inches of height adjustability with the lift of a lever.

The chair comes in 6 bold colours and over 25 fabric options, including designer fabrics such as Maharam and British designer Paul Smith’s Exaggerated Plaid. And because it’s so good you’ll want to take it wherever you go, Buoy is thoughtfully designed to weigh only 20 pounds and comes with a nifty built-in handle.

With all that in mind, it’s hardly surprising that at this year’s Neocon, Buoy came away with the Best of Neocon Innovation Award.

#2 Brackets by Nendo for Kokuyo

Designed for use in the office, Brackets creates bespoke communication areas by ‘bracketing’ its inhabitants in a space.

With its high acoustic partitions, Brackets not only dampens the surrounding noise but also provides visual privacy, enabling more focused and productive discussions to take place.

The sofas have sharp forms that fit into an office environment, while softer inner curves provide comfort to the user.

Users can freely combine the seven sofa types and four table types to create a variety of spaces for openness or privacy, concentration or relaxation, and individuals or groups.

#3 Triscape by HBF

Designed by Todd Bracher, Triscape’s lounge seating, occasional tables and pouf come together to meet the exacting demands of today’s workplace.

With its triangular forms inspired by tessellations, the Triscape collection is conceived specifically for collaborative open-plan spaces that demand a balance of functionality, community engagement and acoustical control.

For one, Triscape offers measured Sabin sound absorption, which is critical in today’s open-plan workspaces. It also offers unlimited configurations, offering lounge seating with a small work surface or, alternatively, as a larger work surface with a seat pad.

In addition, the lounge seating, occasional tables and pouf can be mixed and matched to create a custom environment precisely fitted to the space, the needs of users and a variety of work tasks.
