As we gear up for two full days of design action at Hong Kong Indesign 2015 – taking place on 19 and 20 November – we look back at some of the special moments from the inaugural 2013 event.
October 1st, 2015
Landing in Hong Kong for the first time on 30 November 2013, Hong Kong Indesign®: The Event captured the creative energy of the city in one dynamic, design-filled day. With 20 exhibitors spread out across 15 different locations on Hong Kong Island, design was undoubtedly placed front and centre.
Bright decals and flags made it easy to spot participating showrooms
The days leading up to The Event were already filled with excitement, with VIP parties by Wilkhahn and Gray Hawk on 27 and 28 November respectively. Apart from providing great opportunities to network, the buzz at these VIP parties also primed guests for the main event.
Gray Hawk introduced its handcrafted furniture to the Hong Kong market
Guests were treated to live demonstrations at colourliving
The cool weather on Saturday created the perfect backdrop for The Event to take place. Showrooms in Wan Chai, Central and even the Quarry Bay area opened bright and early, many of them showcasing the latest products from this year’s international fairs.
Food and drinks contributed to on-day festivities
POSH launched Herman Miller’s Mirra 2 at its showroom
But it wasn’t all about the hardware at Hong Kong Indesign®: The Event. There were opportunities for knowledge sharing with talks at places like the Haworth and Kokuyo showrooms.
Kokuyo hosted a Q&A panel on ergonomics in the workplace
Volunteers were on hand to help direct visitors
The Hong Kong architecture and design community also banded together in full support of The Event with contributions to The Project — creative installations done in partnership with selected showrooms.

Throughout the day, perks like competitions and lucky draws with fantastic prizes also kept visitors excited and energy levels up.

A party sponsored by CLESTRA at the über-hip Armani/Prive rounded off the day’s events in style.
Any event would not be possible without the help of partners, and at Hong Kong Indesign®: The Event, it was no different. Founding Sponsor PDM International, Diamond Sponsor Zip, Platinum Sponsor INSTYLE, Gold Sponsor CLESTRA and Merx, and Silver Sponsor Lamitak were all integral to making The Event a huge success.
