Meet the UNSW’s new Program Director of Built Environment.
January 20th, 2010
The new year springs to a start with the appointment of a brand new Interior Architecture Program Director for the Faculty of the Built Environment at the University of New South Wales.
With a wide range of experience in architecture, interiors and urban design gained over 15 years with the NSW Government Architect’s Office, Russell is a veteran with serious architectural credentials.
Having taught design at the University of Sydney since 2000, in 2007 Rodrigo was appointed a Lecturer at the Faculty of the Built Environment, UNSW.
Russell‘s research interests focus on how memory and trauma is represented in the built environment, for which his work has been recognised by British Council Design, who granted him a Researcher Award in 2009.
He has recently completed a research through design PhD, which seeks to question the basis of the way we think about how memory and trauma is spatialized in the design of public and private spaces.
Russell’s focus in his new role as Program Director “will be to build on its existing strengths in teaching, research and industry collaboration, moving towards an integrated curriculum centred on design studio.”
