In this new world, our attention to functional, considered and exceptional design is at an all time high. Designers have taken it in their stride to reimagine the way we interact with our environment and the products within them – delivering feats of creativity that enhance our everyday living. Through a new, beautiful story of artistry and craft, Italian furniture brand, Pedrali takes us on a journey and tells the tale of a new, colourful world; with a product collection that speaks of a refreshed, vibrant and expressive soul.
The story of New Ideas 2020 explores wellness, comfort and sustainability through products that are enhanced from their interaction with their surroundings. Set in a pastel-toned wonderland, these scenes are characterized by the simplicity and cleanliness of refined design in a dream-inducing reality that recalls suspended and reassuring realities. The geometrical environments transport the viewer to a serene state of being as we celebrate the intricate details of each product in the collection. Reminiscent of real-life environments, distinct lights and shadows are used to convey their unique characters.
This year, Pedrali presents two new partnerships with renowned German designer, Sebastian Herkner and Anglo-Italian designer, Robin Rizzini for New Ideas 2020. In line with the Italian brand’s philosophy, the world of New Ideas 2020 blurs the line between traditional artisan skills and new production technologies – resulting in a line of products driven by high quality materials that beautifully age with time.
Herkner’s designs are renowned for their meticulous craftsmanship, quality and superior functionality. The Blume collection is a nod to the grandeur of bygone eras with its soft, undulating lines and its sophisticated flower-shaped profile in extruded aluminium. The Blume chair and lounge chair both feature a slender frame supporting the generous polyurethane foam built-in for superior comfort.
A set of Blume coffee tables are paired perfectly with the chair and lounge chair – with its subtle opulence catering to every seating arrangement and compositions.
Rizzini’s impressive repertoire of products stems from his extensive passion towards innovative materials and production processes. His work defines the importance of rationality and simplicity in design with considered forms. Toa by Robin Rizzini showcases exceptional craftsmanship and artistic thinking. It is a table that combines a technically-driven design, elevated by a captivating allure – characterised by its lightweight, minimalist structure and a solid die-cast aluminium frame in a fluid geometric design.
Toa’s charm also lies in its tapered bridge legs: so sleek and elegant at the base, giving it an iconic shape that blends the strength and finesse of its contemporary design. Thanks to its modularity and expressiveness, Toa is the perfect choice for both living areas and workspaces.
We continue the story of New Ideas 2020 with extraordinary products by an extensive list of collaborators that bring a refreshing touch to the Pedrali brand. This year, we welcome Ila’s strong personality. Designed by Patrick Jouin, this refined piece of furniture expresses the utmost comfort, softness and sensuality. “During the design phase, we wanted to include some ‘unexpected’ elements, capable of providing rhythm, yet surprising and able to interpret a space. Ila is in fact a small sculpture,” says Jouin.
Ila’s smooth, taut exterior in rigid polyurethane cocoons the user in its embrace. A sense of protection is introduced with the inner side of the backrest and seat in flexible polyurethane foam, enveloping the individual in and adapting to their shape and movements. The armchair’s versatility is enforced in the choice of a geometric and swiveling central base – adding another layer of dynamism and lightness to relax throughout the day.
Catalan designer, Eugeni Quitllet adds a new element to the collection first introduced in 2018: Remind chair which draws on the soft, sinuous curves of late 19th century wooden chairs. In 2020, the reinterpreted piece is sensual and romantic – with a fresh, contemporary feel to let you relax in style. Functional, versatile and relatively compact, you can place this chair in any environment and it will always feel at home. Pedrali has introduced a new version of Pedrali “recycled grey” made entirely from recycled material: 50% from plastic material post-consumer waste and 50% from plastic material industrial waste.
Quitllet also introduces us once again to Soul Soft in its reinvented from. This special, 2020 version is crafted with a solid ash wood frame and polycarbonate shell and features a padded and upholstered shell in genuine leather. The new form faithfully recalls its 2018 silhouette of the original collection, with refined details that subtly accentuates and enhances comfort, relaxation and warmth.
Pedrali’s commitment to sustainability is paramount throughout the company and in these new additions. As an ode to the growing demand for environmental sustainability, Babila XL by Odo Fioravanti bridges together tradition and innovation. The inspiration behind this armchair lies in its fusion of rational, straight lines and distinct curvatures that create a link between the artificial world of industrial products and the natural forms of the human body. The new, Babila XL’s shell is made from recycled polypropylene, 50% from plastic material post-consumer waste and 50% from plastic material industrial waste – Babila XL “recycled grey” is durable, sustainable and a stand out for Pedrali’s new collection.
The Italian furniture brand also recognises our innate connection to the outdoors. To take the party outdoors, Pedrali’s new Rail sun lounger is the perfect companion for relaxing moments on the terrace. Characterised by simple, modern lines, its slim frame in powder coated aluminium and upholstered in a water repellent, UV-resistant fabric – Rail is a versatile and durable choice for your outdoor area.
Taking us on a trip to the Mediterranean coast is CMP Design with Panarea. The inspiration for this collection of outdoor seats is deeply rooted in the breeze along the Mediterranean coastline, while basking that pleasant summer day breeze in a sea-facing terrace. Panarea features an armchair and a lounge armchair: wide, curved and woven in polypropylene cord in an original geometrical pattern. The chair is given a three-dimensional, graphic rigour with its use of cord optimising the weaving method. Panarea is both elegant and bold – creating an unforgettable alfresco dining experience.
