Mineral casting: the secret to the wash basin’s curve Axor by Hansgrohe uses the innovative material for many bathroom items
August 5th, 2011
The advantages of mineral casting are clear: wash basins, shelves and bath tubs are kind to the touch, radiate high quality and impress with refined design ideas that cannot be realised with other materials. It really is no wonder that mineral cast is becoming more and more popular as a material for bathroom items. Axor, the Hansgrohe designer brand, has already used it to create a whole range of demanding bathroom elements.

Mineral cast shapes ideas
Whether the nature-inspired wash bowls from the Axor Massaud bathroom collection, the Axor Bouroullec wash basins or the Axor Urquiola wash bowl, which has received the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany: mineral cast can be used to create extraordinary shapes and the finest of details. Axor has therefore chosen to use this material. And it is not only the appearance of mineral casting that wins over more and more bathroom owners and designers but the many added benefits that arise from the material’s extraordinary properties.

Mineral cast is kind to the touch
Mineral casting feels pleasantly warm to the touch, which is great for those who love lying in the bath! The flowing shapes are not only atheistically pleasing, but also create a haptic experience, making you want to stroke them. The Axor Urquiola bath tub and wash basin also have an extraordinary design feature that resembles the handle of old-fashioned wash tubs – and can only be created in mineral casting: the slit-like opening on the sides of the bath tub and wash basin, which can also be put to practical use as a hand or bath towel holder.

Impressive in everyday use
But these are far from all of mineral cast’s qualities: the material can also be quickly and easily cleaned with standard household cleaning products and small scratches can even be easily repaired using colourless car polish.

Products that are so resilient in everyday day contain innovative production technology: predominantly made of mineral materials, the body combines in its casting form with a resistant seal made from a second material, gel coat. This coat provides lasting joy at the high-quality, shiny white design of the mineral casting items in the Axor collections.
