Melissa’s Zaha Hadid shoes to launch in Australia.
January 28th, 2009
Architect Zaha Hadid is renowned for her modern, experimental and cutting edge buildings and architecture. So what happens when you get her in the same room as an Brazillian plastic shoe manufacturer?
The collaboration between the Iraqi-born Hadid and melissa shoes has resulted, not in a shoe that looks like a building, but in an organically
sculptural piece of footwear.
The more than two year partnership between melissa and Hadid was undoubtedly a creative pursuit for the Pritzker prize-winning architect. “The fluidity of our design combined perfectly with the technology of Melissa’s plastic, injecting pieces without closures or seals,” she says.
The design echos Hadid’s more organic, less geometric architectural examples – reminiscent of the flowing forms of projects like the Abu Dhabi Performing Arts Centre and The London Aquatic Centre.
As a part of the shoe’s promotion a huge model of a pair were made in a size closer to the proportions of Hadid’s architecture [see below].
The shoes will be available in Australia from May this year at Space stores and online at melissaaustralia.com.au.
