The ‘Polar’ and ‘Scribble’ collections from Tacchini, Italy represent timeless design.
September 7th, 2009
The Polar collection by designers, Pearson Lloyd, explores the timeless shapes of nature. The seating collection – complementing the Polar Table – includes a lounge, armchair and ottoman, which can all be combined to create six different arrangements.
“It was inspired by thinking how people sit either together or alone in shared environments rather than thinking about form,” say Pearson Lloyd. ’¨’¨“We started by simply photographing people in public spaces and private spaces either alone or together and this built an understanding of what was needed. Once we had this, the form fitted to these scenarios.”
The Polar Lounge is available with or without a backrest and can be upholstered in house fabric, soft leather or to specification.
Joining Polar is the Scribble Collection, also from Tacchini, by Claesson Koivisto Rune. The range of seating interprets the random lines of a ‘scribble’, creating a family of organic and elegantly shaped soft-padded seating.
The Scribble collection includes a chair, a high-back chair, armchair and a bar stool, all featuring plywood shells – finished in foam and upholstered in house fabric, leather or to specification – and sled or swivel steel frames in bright chrome of powdercoated colours.
“The Scribble is translated to a unique stitching design,” say Claesson Koivisto Rune. “An irregular seam follows the silhouette of the seat and meanders towards the centre… We work in a team, and the design derives out from discussions and sketch-work.”
The Polar and Scribble collections are available in Australia and Singapore through Stylecraft.
