The ocean inspires the illuminating creations of one Filipino designer.
January 18th, 2010
The ‘Molly’ hanging lamp is the brainchild of Luisa de los Santos Robinson.
The designer – who belongs to an alliance of designers known as ‘Movement 8’ – is known for her organic, fluid forms and creations which are rich in texture.
The ocean around the island of Cebu in the Southern Philippines, where she lives and works, is rich in inspiration for the creator who interprets natural forms in her works.
The inspiration for the Molly lamp – a hanging luminaire created from bronze, copper and metallic olive ribbons interwoven – are the sea anemones and jellyfish of her homeland.
Using these three shades of synthetic ribbon, the designer creates a shimmering effect, which is reflected when the lamp is lit.
The lamps are available in two sizes, a larger one measuring100cm D X 80 cm W X 40cm H, plus a smaller size 52.5cm D X 54.5cm W X 40cm H.
