Since forming 55 years ago, Melbourne architecture practice ClarkeHopkinsClarke has continued to evolve simultaneously with Melbourne’s changing architectural landscape.
October 14th, 2015
The work of ClarkeHopkinsClarke has developed and grown in parallel with the city of Melbourne, responding to the ever-changing demands of the market. While the company initially worked almost exclusively on single residential projects, this focus has gradually shifted towards working with developers to design multi-residential buildings and mixed-use precincts, just as the trend has grown throughout Melbourne.
Some recent projects exemplifying the trend towards larger mixed-use includes the multi-award winning Highett development. Highett makes use of an infill site to both reinvigorate an existing retail strip and provide a greater range of housing typologies in an area in great need of additional medium density options.
A project that’s currently nearing completion, Soho Village in Point Cook, is another example of CHC’s ability to respond to a community’s needs. This development features luxury townhouses, SOHOs (townhouses with a ground floor home office) and apartments centred on a vibrant boutique retail village centre.
CHC are also currently working with developer Deal Corp on the Polaris 3083 precinct in Bundoora, which provides an example of their ability to capture the vision of the developer and the needs of the community in the masterplan of a suburban infill site. Described as the Carlton of the North, the Polaris development draws influence from the intimate scale and medium density housing built around a central retail area, as established inner Melbourne suburbs such as Carlton.
