DesignByThem’s designers Sarah Gibson & Nicholas Karlovasitis launched the Partridge Chair at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York City this May.
July 9th, 2015
Adding to the Partridge range of timber furniture, the Partridge Chair is the result of a desire to create a visually light, contemporary interpretation of a classic form without sacrificing comfort, personality and durability.
“The considered integration of the solid timber elements and the wire formed backrest was important in achieving this cohesive design,” says DesignByThem designer Nicholas Karlovasitis.
The Partridge Chair demonstrates a harmonious relationship between composition, structure and material that celebrates sustainable and timeless design. The warmth of the White Ash timber has been balanced with an industrial aesthetic seen in the galvanised steel fixings and backrest. The curved shapes and linear form of the backrest are a nod to art deco styling, giving the product subtle nostalgic undertones.
The chair is offered in FSC certified timber and hand finished with natural oil waxes. Available in various timbers and custom metal powder coat colours, the product can be sent unassembled, ensuring that the product remains compact during distribution and by using fasteners to join the product, harmful adhesives are avoided. DesignByThem also offers a product stewardship program where it takes back products to be either repaired, reused or recycled.
