Artist, Peter Atkins, will present works in collaboration with TSAR Rugs and Global Art Project for State of Design.
July 6th, 2009
Peter Atkins is described as a ‘collector of found materials’. The Australian artist has received much acclaim across the globe and has works in several prominent collections locally and abroad – including the National Gallery of Australia.
Atkins has exhibited throughout the world from Mexico City (‘Five Continents and One City’) to Japan (travelling show ‘Systems End – Contemporary Art in Australia’). The artist uses the found objects as inspiration for his paintings, but also shows the items themselves in assemblages.
Now, as part of the State of Design, Atkins has come together with TSAR and Global Art Projects to create ‘Common Thread’ – a series of artist-designed rugs.
The exhibition continues on from ‘Special Project #2 – Remnant Threads’, consisting of 12 small artworks – using thread on plywood – which Atkins produced during his 2006 artist in residency program at the Victorian Tapestry Workshop in Melbourne.
The exhibition will run from 15 – 25 July at the Tsar Showroom: 3 Wellington Street, St. Kilda.
