Presented by Autex

Designing with Country is not a trend—it is an essential shift in how the built environment engages with place, culture and community. This session invites participants to move beyond surface-level acknowledgment and toward deeper, more meaningful collaboration with First Nations knowledge systems.
Through real-world examples and practical insights, the presentation explores how architects and designers can embed cultural understanding into the design process from the outset. This includes engaging with Traditional Custodians, respecting cultural narratives and recognising the ongoing connection between people and land.
Rather than treating Country as a backdrop, this approach positions it as a living system that informs spatial decisions, material choices and project outcomes. Attendees will gain a clearer sense of how co-design processes can lead to more authentic, inclusive and enduring architecture.
Importantly, the session also addresses common challenges—such as navigating consultation processes and avoiding tokenism—while offering pathways toward more respectful and impactful engagement.
For practitioners looking to deepen their understanding and approach projects more thoughtfully, this is an important conversation to be part of. Join in on 19 May 2026, 10:30–11:30am AEST and take the opportunity to earn 1 formal CPD point.
‘Understanding and Respecting Country’ is presented by Autex Acoustics and is just one of 17 online, free and live-presented CPD Live sessions taking place from 19–22 May 2026.
