To be launched in Hong Kong in September, Essential Eames is a very special exhibition that traces the life and passions of Charles and Ray Eames.
August 1st, 2011
Essential Eames, which will be held at the Hong Kong Design Institute from 16 September, is based on An Eames Primer, a book that captures the spirit and philosophy behind the work of Charles and Ray Eames.
On show will be never before seen images and the launch of 30 new films about the life and work of the dynamic duo.
During the course of their life the iconic couple produced 125 films, over 800,000 photographs, a large range of furniture (most of which is still in production by Herman Miller today), the Eames House, House of Cards, Multimedia presentations and various exhibitions including Mathematica and Glimpses of the USA.
From architecture and furniture to exhibition design, toy making, film and philosophy Charles and Ray were prolific in their creative output and approached every endeavour with rigour and purpose. This exhibition will bring together those endeavours and show the seamless connection between them.
Essential Eames is part of REACH, a unique exhibition showcasing the design world of Herman Miller.
Essential Eames will be officially opened by Eames Demetrios (Director of Eames Office and grandson of Charles and Ray Eames) on 16 September.
Eames will also be presenting a lecture on Charles and Ray and providing guided tours of the exhibition on 16 September. Entry is free but space is limited so register online for this unique opportunity now.
Open to the public every day (except Tuesdays) from 16 September – 3 December 2011. Visit hermanmillerasia.com/reach for more information and to register for tickets.
