Over the Wall, currently on show at the 14th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice.
June 18th, 2014
Over the Wall is currently on show at the Hong Kong Pavilion at 14th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice.
Directed by Tsim Ho-tat, the film Over the Wall brings viewers to the near future where NG, a big shot director from mainland China, will invite a Hong Kong architect to work on a theatre adaptation. The celebrated play Over the Wall will be presented in West Kowloon Cultural District with a local twist: Over the Wall-Reclamation Street, the oldest reclaimed land in Hong Kong.
The new adaptation will discuss the differences between Hong Kong and mainland China in terms of culture, language, Chinese characters, wealth gap, customs and values. It will also talk about the ‘Wall’ and the boundaries between individuals. The wall marks the boundary of Reclamation Street, but will it bring harmony between old and new, or does it simply serve as a test point? The film is about supersession, communication, conflict and dispute, all reflecting our own reality.
