At Hong Kong Indesign: The Event, Bolon will present its story through an exclusive coffee table book that charts its evolution from a traditional Swedish weaving mill into a globally recognised brand.
November 19th, 2013
From traditional Scandinavian cotton and nylon ‘rag rugs’ to internationally acclaimed designs in collaboration with known names in the industry – the Campana brothers, architect Jean Nouvel, to name a few – Bolon has come a long way. Founded in 1949, the Swedish flooring manufacturer has updated itself time and again to market trends, as well as technical innovations; it was the first company in the world to produce woven vinyl floor coverings and has its own design studio where all its flooring is designed.
Today, it is led by sisters Annica and Marie Eklund from the family business’ third generation, the former as CEO and the latter as CCO. It is very much their foresight, creativity and vision that has transformed the company into the global design brand it is today.
To celebrate the brand’s 10th year with the sisters at the helm, Bolon released an exclusive book at this year’s Milan Design Week. Titled “The Story of Bolon” and edited by Simon Mills, evocative black and white photographs by renowned photographer Tobias Regell and interviews with foreward-thinking creators, designers and architects from the likes of Rosita Missoni, Giulio Cappelini and Thomas Sandell grace the pages. The finely crafted coffee table book not only represents the brand’s elegance and attention to detail, it also aims to show a more personal side of the brand.
Constantly active in the design scene, Bolon has taken part in many fairs and exhibitions. This month, it will be participating in the inaugural Hong Kong Indesign: The Event, where visitors will get to see excerpts from the book, along with the much talked about Bolon by Missoni and Wing flooring tile.
