KHID has breathed new life into this office entry and meeting area, all while working within the parameters of a small internal reception area that had no access to natural light.
Gordon Legal was founded by Peter Gordon in 2010. As an Australian practice fighting for the justice of everyday people, the company needed a new workplace that was welcoming while being a true reflection of its values.
The refit involved creating a new reception and meeting facility within the existing office space. KHID were the commercial workplace experts brought in to revitalise the reception area. KHID has extensive experience in commercial interior design solutions and through its experience brought a unique approach to the design solution.
Gordon Legal’s slogan is simple but to the point, being “It’s Personal”. The team at KHID used this as a starting point. As director Katrina Hooker says, “we created a reception and meeting facility that is welcoming and calm, yet professional and representative of a legal practice.”
One of the challenges in the project was the lack of natural light given the existing fit-out. “As there was no access to natural light we created a space that provided interest and detail through the installation of the materials,” explains Katrina on the design process.
Lightness and a warm accessibility are expressed through the design in the material palette and colourways. Crisp white walls paired with light timber parquet wall details and greenery bring in a fresh and friendly vibe. A renewed entrance helping to create a memorable warm first impression for clients, visitors and staff alike.
The timber patterning on the walls adds a soft intricate detail that helps to push the design adding unexpected points of interest.
Sophisticated Furniture
Part of the project’s success comes through the careful selection of furniture. A star piece being Blå Station’s modular Bob lounge. The Bob’s variable design ability lent itself perfectly to the space, while being different enough to draw attention.
“We used Blå Station’s ‘Bob’ bench seat from P4 as it provided an interesting seating arrangement within the reception. It was something a little unexpected, but also due to its high-quality style it brings the level of sophistication expected in a law firm,” shares Katrina.
For the revised meeting room, Blå Station’s Gaia acoustic wall panels work as both a functional and decorative element offering sound attenuation while giving a sophisticated aesthetic.
Despite being a small and challenging refit, the team at KHID were able to create a completely refreshed and friendly reception area, along with a new meeting room. This was achieved by implementing a clean, crisp palette of materials coupled with a high-end approach to the furniture selection.
The result is a space that is personal, which is a true reflection of the Gordon Legal brand and its mantra ‘It’s Personal’.
