Doherty Design Studio and Grazia & Co have teamed up to launch Lunar, a hand made mirror collection that recalls the beauty of the moon.
The Lunar collaboration between Doherty and Grazia & Co is the first for the Victorian design companies, though the quality and elegance of the resulting mirror range suggests more than a passing collaboration.
“When Grazia & Co’s director, Grazia Materia, invited us to design and create a range of mirrors with her we didn’t hesitate,” says Mardi Doherty, director of Doherty Design Studio. “We share Grazia’s dedication for good design and we’re excited to have been given the opportunity to collaborate with such a dynamic brand that supports high quality Australian-designed and made furniture.”
The Lunar Tall and Lunar Wide floor mirrors have been designed to be the focal point of the spaces they occupy. Crafted from powder-coated steel and fitted with laser-cut mirrors, the unique bottom of each mirror ends in distinctive moon-like arc, appearing to elegantly float within the bottom of the frame.
The Lunar Wall mirror rounds out the collection and is intended for a smaller space yet retains the eye-catching, visually arresting nature of its larger counterparts. The Lunar Wall’s design is made up of two mirrored parts – a rectangle and arc. The addition of the fixed angled arc section of mirror adds a playful element to the design, as well as another dimension for capturing light and views.
The Lunar mirror range reflects Doherty Design Studio’s affinity with sculptural forms and passion for capturing and playing with light in dramatic and unexpected ways.
“The name Lunar references the light and shadow and the changing phases of the moon that we aimed to capture in these mirrors,” says Mardi. “We wanted them to have a an elegant and timeless quality, with a touch of whimsy.”
