Space Furniture introduces the latest from the B&B Italia Outdoor Collection.
July 21st, 2009
B&B Italia has been building its outdoor collection for over four years, producing pieces with depth and style for outdoor design.
Australians know better than anyone the joys of the outdoor room and with B&B Italia’s latest addition, ‘Crinoline’ by Patricia Urquiola, pools, terraces and decks throughout the country are in for a treat.
Core to B&B’s outdoor range are three designs by Urquiola – Canasta, Ravel and now Crinoline. Growing up in Spain, the Urquiola believes strongly in the tangible, in making things, drawing from the handcrafted and linking to history, culture and our roots.
As a child, spending her summers on the island of Ibiza, the designer was influenced by the weaving techniques, such as macramé, that flourished there in the 1970s. Crinoline pays tribute to this: like a full-skirted petticoat with embroidered detailing, this beautiful, whimsical range is sculptural in form and light in appearance.
With motifs that perhaps draw more form 1960s pop art than folk art, Crinoline is a refreshing departure from outdoor furniture that is so often resolved in heavy timbers.
The Springtime designed by Jean-Marie Massaud for socialising and conversation, forms a consistent linear landscape with white varnished aluminium frames and waterproof fabrics. These latest pieces from B&B Italia join the classic 1966 and Swell collections by Richard Schultz.
These new designs were launched in Australia at Saturday in Design. Be sure to get along to the SPACE Furniture showrooms in Alexandria, NSW, Richmond, VIC and Fortitude Valley, Qld to view the collections.
