Plantation Coffee is a new addition to the café scene in a city that takes its coffee and its design seriously.
September 26th, 2011
If you really love your coffee, you’ll know that coffee drinking is much more than just guzzling down a latte. It’s about the flavour, the smell, the ritual and the experience.
Plantation Coffee, in the new Dining Hall at The GPT Group’s Melbourne Central, aims to create a sensory experience – from the glass cloche jars housing coffee beans at the ’aroma station’ to the laboratory-style cold drips extracting the liquid from coffee beans.

Plantation Coffee’s interior is the work of Jennifer Lowe and Brooke Thorne of The Design Collective and Adele Winteridge of Foolscap Studio.

The design puts a new spin on colonial-era architecture. The colourful tiled shopfront is offset by dark graphic arches and refined timber running through the space.

The red and white tile floor evokes the shady balconies of plantation houses. Small decorative features place an emphasis on craftsmanship and detail.
